FishOrNot is built on a simple idea: basic fishing information should be free, and using it shouldn't cost you your privacy. This policy explains, in plain English, exactly what the app does and doesn't do with information.
The short version: FishOrNot does not require any account, login, or personal details — no name, no email, ever. We assign your device an anonymous identifier so the app can remember your preferences and streak. We note the general locations anglers search for so we can enrich fishing forecasts, species guides, and content for the places people care about most. We use this only to improve FishOrNot — we never sell or share it, and we never collect your name, email, or precise personal location.
What we collect
An anonymous device identifier
When you use FishOrNot, the app stores a random identifier on your device so it can remember things like your visit streak, your saved locations, and your display preferences between visits. This identifier is not linked to your name, email, or any account — because there is no account. It is a random value, not personal contact information.
Approximate location (only when needed)
To show a forecast for where you are, the app needs an approximate location. In most of the world this is detected automatically from your device or network when you open the app. In regions that require it (such as the EU, EEA, and UK), the app does not detect your location automatically — instead it shows a "Check my location" button, and nothing is detected or stored until you tap it. The location used is approximate (a general area), not a precise pinpoint of where you are.
The general areas anglers search for
When people search the app for a place to fish — a lake, a bay, a town — we keep an anonymous, aggregate count of which general areas are being searched. This tells us which waters anglers care about most, so we can build better forecasts, species guides, and content for those places. These counts are aggregate and anonymous: they record that an area was searched, not who searched it. They are not tied to your device identifier.
Basic, standard analytics
Like most websites, FishOrNot uses Google Analytics to understand general usage — how many people visit, which pages are popular, roughly which countries traffic comes from. This helps us improve the service. We also fetch weather, marine, and forecast data from third-party providers (such as Open-Meteo) to power the forecast itself.
How we use it — and what we never do
Everything above is used for one purpose: to make FishOrNot a more useful free tool for anglers. Concretely, we use it to:
- Show you a forecast for your area
- Remember your streak, saved locations, and preferences
- Understand which waters anglers are interested in, so we can prioritise content and forecasts for those places
- Keep the service running and improve it over time
We do not:
- Collect your name, email, or phone number (we never ask for them)
- Sell, rent, or trade your information to anyone
- Build advertising profiles about you or track you across other websites
- Store a precise, personal record of everywhere you have been
If FishOrNot ever introduces an optional account in the future, any information tied to that account would be collected only with your clear consent at that time, and this policy would be updated to explain it.
Your choices & rights
Because FishOrNot has no account and stores its identifier on your own device, you stay in control:
- Clear your data anytime. Clearing your browser's site data for FishOrNot removes the anonymous identifier and saved preferences from your device.
- Location is yours to give. You can decline location access in your browser, search manually for any place, or — in regions where we ask first — simply not tap "Check my location."
- Analytics opt-out. You can use browser settings or extensions to opt out of analytics such as Google Analytics.

The Service is free and provided "as is"
FishOrNot is a free informational tool. Solunar forecasts are based on moon phase and gravitational theory; weather, tide, and marine data come from third-party providers. Fishing conditions depend on many factors we can't predict — weather changes, water temperature, season, local conditions, and luck. We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or results of any forecast. Use the Service as one input among many, and always use your own judgement.
Fish safely and legally
You are responsible for your own safety and for following the law where you fish. Always check and obey local fishing regulations, licensing requirements, seasons, limits, and access rules for your location. FishOrNot does not grant any right to fish anywhere and is not a substitute for official regulations or local authorities.
Waterbody and location information
The Service lists waterbodies and locations drawn from open data sources. This information may be incomplete, out of date, or inaccurate, and the presence of a waterbody in the app does not mean it is open to the public, safe, stocked, or legal to fish. Verify access and conditions independently before you go.
Listings & directories
FishOrNot may include directories or listings of third parties such as fishing guides or charter captains. Where it does, FishOrNot acts only as an advertising platform that displays listings. We do not verify, endorse, license, employ, or vouch for any listed third party, and we are not a party to any arrangement, booking, trip, or transaction you make with them. Any dealings — including payment, scheduling, conduct, and safety — are strictly between you and that third party. You should do your own checks (licensing, insurance, reviews, references) before engaging anyone, and any disputes are between you and them.
Third-party services & links
The Service relies on and links to third-party data and websites. We are not responsible for the content, accuracy, availability, or practices of third-party services.
Intellectual property
The FishOrNot name, logo, design, original content, and compiled datasets are the property of FishOrNot.com. You may use the Service for your own personal, non-commercial fishing planning. You may not scrape, copy, resell, or redistribute the Service's content or data, or build a competing product from it, without permission.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, FishOrNot.com and its operator are not liable for any loss, injury, or damage arising from your use of — or inability to use — the Service, including reliance on any forecast or location information. The Service is provided without warranties of any kind, express or implied.
Changes to the Service
We may add, change, or remove features, or suspend or discontinue the Service, at any time without notice. Because the Service is free, we make no commitment to keep any particular feature available.
